Five years of venture in Vanuatu

Once upon a time ….
In August 2002, we came to Vanuatu as stressed top executives, in search of a great diving experience and a relaxing vacation. We felt in love with the natural beauty of the archipelago, the simple life style of its residents and most importantly the friendliness and happiness of the Ni-Vanuatu. This first visit was a full discovery of a traditional society and the diverse Melanesian culture. Living in the stressful environment of the western world, we decided to give up on our more and more busy and demanding career and to get the most of our “mid life crisis”. We changed everything, except the most important part : our family. We quit our jobs and moved to Vanuatu 6 months later with our two sons. We started to search for a pleasant place to live on the waterfront with a great view over the sea. While our kids were at school, we enjoyed our time diving and looking around. While picking up air tanks for diving, we discovered Fatumaru Bay.
Fatumaru Lodge project was born.
The name Fatumaru when translated from local Melanesian language means “living stone”.
In October 2003, the digging of foundation started.
On June 4 2004, we hosted our first guests.
Vanuatu is a true people experience and an opportunity to discover a unique culture. Fatumaru Lodge is designed and built around this concept.
While relaxing in your room, enjoy the simplicity, the diversity and primitive features of Ni-Vanuatu art. Each room is named after the island of Emao Tanna, Pentecost, Erromango, Wala introducing you to the culture of the archipelago.
